A small store is located at the top for snacks and water.

The 72-mile Tour De Tahoe: Bike Big Blue course circumnavigates the highways clockwise around Lake Tahoe in both Nevada and California. It includes a challenging 800-foot climb to a rest stop overlooking Emerald Bay and a 1,000-foot climb to Spooner Junction. There are also many short rolling ascents and descents totaling over 2,600 vertical feet of elevation gain! The altitude ranges between 6,300 feet and 7,100 feet above sea level and the ride is recommended for conditioned recreational bicyclists, not for beginners. Come join us for a four-day San Juan Island tour which will visit Lopez, Shaw, Orcas, and San Juan. We will stay in Friday Harbor and ferry to the different islands to bike. Camping is an option but you will need to make your own arrangements. Take Hwy 50 to Missouri Flat Rd. and turn east (L) on Pleasant Valley Rd., Right on Buck’s Bar to the intersection of Buck’s Bar & Mt. Aukum Rd. in Somerset. Park in the dirt lot on the NE corner. The search begins at 0850 as we head up to Grizzly Flat, and beyond. After 30 miles and 4,000 feet of climbing, we’ll reach Pipi campground that has water and outhouses. This ride does have some short steep climbs of 16-20%, and overall about 6,000 feet of climbing, so bring climbing gears. Route descends Omo Ranch Rd. This ride is in the wilderness, the store is late in the ride, so bring water and food.

Mt. Lassen dates are 8/24 thru 8/27, arrive Monday, depart Thursday. There will be a short ride Monday afternoon at 2:30 PM. One or two rooms will be available Thursday for after ride showers. Maps and routes will be provided for all days. The Mt. Lassen climb is one of the smoothest, scenic, and enjoyable climbs you will ever ride.
We will be staying at the Seneca Motel, which is further off the main road and has a nice grassy and pine tree shaded group area for our intellectual discussions and refreshments. We have the same low rates as last year. If the Seneca is all booked or you want to stay at a newer and fancier motel nearby, check out the Best Western, http://www.rosequartzinn.com/index.html Reservation info: Seneca Motel, 545 Cedar and Martin Way, Phone 530-258-2815. We’ll begin with a short foothill ride, and then return for some eating and socializing. Please bring something to share. Families welcome. Ride starts at 0900 and picnic starts at 1130. The club will provide Hamburgers and Brats along with paper products, sodas, and beer. Directions to Loomis Community Park: Take I–80 eastbound, exit on Penryn Rd., R on King, L on Ong into park.
