We’ll take the 5:25 AM train to Santa Clara, then begin a moderate/easy, 50-mile, 2,800-ft+ climb over Saratoga Gap and mostly descend thru the woods to Santa Cruz. Second day has 3 options. Go north to Davenport for lunch via Ice Cream Grade, and Boonie Doon, and return along the coast. Go south thru the hills and over to the coast for lunch at Phil’s and back along the coast. Or you can hang out and watch the surfers. Thursday we’ll ride back over Mt. Charlie, lunch in Los Gatos, then on to San Jose Amtrak to Sacramento. Luggage sagged. Stay both nights at Santa Cruz Beach Inn, 600 Riverside Ave., Santa Cruz 95060.
