Mr. President - Ralph Lubick
The Sacramento Wheelmen
Annual Awards Banquet - 2006

On February 10, 2007, the Sacramento Wheelmen held their Annual Banquet at the Dante Club. This year’s gala event was to celebrate our 33rd year and also to thank and present awards to members that make our Club so exceptional.

During the banquet, emceed by Pres. Ralph Lubick, we recognized those members that had achievements in cycling and those who went above and beyond the call in volunteering for our Club.

We have ridden all over the map, near and far -- with a total of 470,241 club miles ridden, with 887 rides to choose from, an average of 55 miles per rider ride, and a membership of about 750 members -- and continue to set the standard for bike clubs everywhere.

In memory of two extraordinary members, the Hugh Anglin and Jim Gilman Awards are the most prestigious in the club. And, the Sacramento Wheelmen recognizes the individuals who continue to raise the bar on volunteerism. Outstanding recognition went to:

Sandra Yarrow was awarded a Lifetime Membership.
Dale and Jan Tudor received the Gilman award for Outstanding Contributions to the club.
Neal Bos received the Anglin award for Volunteer of the Year.

Banquet Committee
We recognize and honor the volunteer Ride Leaders. The following seven individuals lead multiple day tours or a large number of one-day rides: Ken Bell, Dick Nussbaum, Tim Koch, Robert Maben, Neal Bos, Bob Hawkins, Nick Hourigan. Tim Koch lead our annual weeklong tour in Oregon and Neal Bos lead a three-week tour of Europe. Ken Bell lead an incredible 78 one-day rides, followed by Dick Nussbaum who lead 52 rides. In addition, we thanked and recognized The Board for all their hard work throughout the year.

Mileage – And, we gasp and murmur when the high mileage champions are announced. Their accomplishments inspire us to reach higher, whatever we reach for, and challenge ourselves. Top Mileage awards went to Ken Bell with 15,153 miles for Top Male Mileage, Sherri Lehman for the Top Woman Mileage with 7386 miles, and Ralph and Kris LeMeur cranked the tandem to the top of the mileage charts.

Other top awards: Achieving the “10,000 Mile Club” for 2006 were Ken Bell (15,153 miles), Dick Nussbaum (14,328), and Mike Dodson (11,667). The “100,000 Mile Club” was Ken Bell.

The Sierra Century exceeded everyone’s greatest expectations in attendance (over 2000 riders), jerseys sales (500), and volunteers (350). Dale and Jan Tudor did a fantabulous job as Sierra Century Directors this past year. The directors make it better every year, and we keep coming back with better service, better food, and a growing number of enthusiastic volunteers. The responses from the happy riders are overwhelming. Because of our successful Sierra Century, we are able to give back to our communities.

SABA, the Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates, is the recipient of this year’s Silent Auction. SABA is the key bike advocacy organization in Sacramento, and is instrumental in making many positive changes happen for cycling, results that benefit our members. Please support them by becoming a SABA member.
